FlyQuest CS2 Team Review
FlyQuest is a young Australian CS2 team (though owned by an American), and the undisputed dominant force in the Australian and Oceanian scene. Among the top five teams in their Asian group, FlyQuest have been fighting for a place in the world top since their inception – consistently, but without much momentum.
Does FlyQuest CS have a chance to break out of Tier-2 and become a new rising star of the world class? We analyze these questions in the new MelBet Pick’em overview.
FlyQuest History
We are used to the fact that eSports clubs start their history with CS or Dota 2 rosters – but in the history of FlyQuest, everything is the opposite. Initially, FlyQuest CS2 was formed in 2017 around a League of Legends side team that broke away from Cloud9, and later opened departments in Rocket League, Valorant, SSB, and Fortnite. And only in 2024, the organization decided to try its hand at Counter Strike.
FlyQuest signed a ready-made roster from New Zealand. Today, FlyQuest CSGO (or rather, the CS2 roster) has managed to prove itself well, having managed to take decent places in major tournaments for a young team – but they still have room for improvement.
FlyQuest Founders
The history of the FlyQuest CS2 team begins with the purchase of the Cloud9 Challenger roster in 2017, one of the teams of the American eSports club Cloud9. The buyers were Wesley “Wes” Edens, the owner of the basketball team, and the Fortress Investment Group. Later, an entire organization grew around this initial roster – and one with a rich philosophy. FlyQuest Esports positions itself as agents of environmental and social change.
In 2022, the organization was bought by the Viola Family (an American company led by billionaire Vincent Viola) – the owners of large sports projects.
FlyQuest Initial Roster
In March 2024, FlyQuest, already an organization with 7 years of experience, buys out the roster of the bankrupt Australian team Grayhound Gaming (the team’s self-name was Jeeves). This FlyQuest roster included:
- Christopher “dexter” Nong – IGL;
- Jay “Liazz” Tregillgas;
- Alistair “aliStair” Johnston;
- Joshua “INS” Potter;
- Declan “Vexite” Portelli.
The team lasted in this lineup until the beginning of 2025, i.e. for about 8 months – after which AliStair was replaced by the Romanian player Iulian “regali” Harjău, who was once a player for OG. This broke the unity of the Australian team roster.
FlyQuest CS2 team also took their coach from Grayhound Gaming – the Mongolian Erdenetsogt “erkaSt” Gantulga. Together with him, in their first year, the team showed good results: they settled in the top 25 in the world, won the ESL Challenger at DreamHack Atlanta 2024 (A-tier), and took part in their first major in Shanghai.
FlyQuest Current Roster
In 2025, the management began experimenting more actively with the roster. In total, there were 3 changes this year. As of September 2025, the updated FlyQuest roster looks like this:
- Joshua “INS” Potter – IGL (initial player);
- Declan “Vexite” Portelli (initial player);
- Iulian “regali” Harjău (joined 2025);
- Corey “nettik” Browne (joined 2025);
- Justin “jks” Savage (joined 2025);
From the starting lineup, INS (who was made the new captain) and Vexite were retained. The rest are three newcomers: regali, New Zealander nettik, and the new star of the lineup – jks. Justin Savage is a 29-year-old Australian who has played for Complexity, G2, and Team Liquid during his career.
However, it cannot be said that this has already given the team a big boost – apparently, the updated lineup spent a lot of time playing together. Thus, at BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, the team showed a worse result compared to last year, and also won only one tournament, and at that – B-tier level. The maximum achievement for 2025 is 3rd place at the Asian Champions League 2025.
In recent months, the CS2 FlyQuest team has also updated its coach – today it is 23-year-old Portuguese Ricardo “JTR” Júnior, who previously worked as a coach at ODDIK.
FlyQuest Tournament Achievements
FlyQuest shows good results for a Tier-2 team: for example, successful qualification for the last 2 majors, even if not with the best results, is already a good achievement. The main prize places that the Australian-American team has managed to take so far are:
- 1st place at ESL Challenger at DreamHack Atlanta 2024, A-tier ($50,000);
- 3rd place at Asian Champions League 2025, A-tier ($40,000);
The best S-tier results for the CS2 FlyQuest team so far are 7th-8th place at Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2024 and the same place at BLAST Rivals Spring 2025.
FlyQuest Legends
Joshua “INS” Potter is a legend not just for FlyQuest, but for the whole Australian eSports. An experienced player, who has been on the scene for almost 10 years, he currently holds the position of captain of the FlyQuest team. During his career, he has played in dozens of S-tier tournaments, such as ESL Pro League, IEM and BLAST – and knows well how to find ways to win against today’s old top CS2 teams.
In addition to his excellent leadership qualities, INS himself is a very, very successful riffler – flexible and versatile. Joshua is a multiple winner of regional CS2 (and previously CSGO) tournaments in the region, and it is simply impossible to imagine FlyQuest or the entire Australian Counter Strike without him today.
FlyQuest Upcoming Tournaments
You can safely expect the FlyQuest CS2 team to appear at the Budapest Major this December. Over the past few years, the team, whether under the Grayhound Gaming or FlyQuest Esports label, has participated in almost all major CS2 tournaments – except perhaps Copenhagen 2024, which was happening just at the time of the team’s transition.
The team’s best result at the main CS tournament on the planet remains 17th – 19th place – so this fall the team has excellent motivation to train in order to raise their own bar this December.
