Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 Team Review
Ninjas in Pyjamas can rightly look down on the rest of the teams in today’s CS arena. It is unlikely that anyone can compete with them in terms of expertise. This is the oldest, as of 2025, eSports club actively playing in Counter Strike. In addition, at one time, they successfully climbed to the top of the world top.
More than 10 teams played under the “ninja” tag in various games, including Dota 2. In this MelBet Pick’em review, we analyze the path of NIP CSGO, a real living witness to almost the entire history of eSports.
NiP History
Today’s NIP is already the third reincarnation of the team: founded in 2000, they went to SK Gaming in 2002, re-established an independent roster in 2005 – and later broke up again. The current “ninjas” have been continuously counting their history since 2012 – the decision to return was made along with the release of the new CS GO.
NIP CSGO will immediately show rapid growth, set several records, win the major and forever receive the status of a scene legend. But in the CS2 era, the ninjas have been playing with varying success – unfortunately, any dominance at the peak is not eternal.
Ninjas in Pyjamas Founders
NiP was founded by two players – 20-year-old Tommy “Potti” Ingemarsson and 17-year-old Emil “HeatoN” Christensen. HeatoN will play a key role in the history of the team – not only will he himself be an incredibly successful player, but he will also initiate both revivals of the team: separation from SK in 2005 (then he will take up a coaching role) and the reunification of the Ninjas in Pyjamas CSGO team in 2012 (this time he will become a manager). HeatoN will be with his team until 2018, when they part ways – but it is with them that he forever inscribed his name on the list of the most legendary figures in the history of CS.
NiP Initial Roster
At the first tournaments under the name Ninjas in Pyjamas, in the early 2000s, the NiP roster were Emil “HeatoN” Christensen and Tommy “Potti” Ingemarsson, as well as Johan “Hyb” Karlund, Erik “Medion” Engström and Jorgen “XeqtR” Johansen.
However, in the context of the team’s modern history, it makes much more sense to start from their third reincarnation, assembled in 2012. That golden NIP roster was composed of:
- Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund;
- Patrick “f0rest” Lindberg;
- Adam “friberg” Friberg;
- Richard “Xizt” Landström;
- Robin “Fifflaren” Johansson.
The team did not have a stable coach, but this did not prevent these five “ninjas” from becoming eternal legends of CS. In 2012, they opened their unique in the history of the discipline series of victories – as many as 87 maps in a row! Throughout the history of the game, their main competitors in this indicator, NaVi and G2, did not come close to this number, even by a third.
Ninjas in Pyjamas Current Roster
The end of the CS GO period for the team will be the opposite of the results at the beginning – Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 will never be able to create a strong roster in the updated game. Since 2022, the team has been experiencing a strong drop in the rating, lack of qualification for some majors, and constant roster changes.
However, the NIP CS2 team still have a chance: for example, they showed a good result at PGL Astana 2025 (S-tier), which briefly returned them to the world top-20. As of September 2025, the NIP CS2 roster includes:
- Marco «Snappi» Pfeiffer (Denmark, joined 2025) – IGL;
- Artem «r1nkle» Moroz (Ukraine, joined 2024);
- Michel «ewjerkz» Magalhães (Brazil, joined 2025);
- Rasmus «sjuush» Beck (Denmark, joined 2025);
- Kacper «xKacpersky» Gabara (Poland, joined 2025).
The coaching staff also gives hope for at least a partial restoration of former glory: for many years, NiP CS2 coach Frederik “JAEGARN” Kempf has been his coach. Now he has been helped by the legend Richard “Xizt” Landström, who, after being kicked from NiP in 2018, managed to play for FaZe and Dignitas, and worked as a coach for Heroic.
NiP Tournament Achievements
Stellar path of NIP esport began with a victory at CPL Winter 2001 – the main S-tier tournament of those distant years, an analogue of today’s majors. In the new period 2012-2025, team’s achievements include victories at the following S-tiers:
- 1st place at ESL One: Cologne 2014 ($100,000);
- 1st place at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season, 2016 ($130,000);
- 1st place at Intel Extreme Masters XI – Oakland and XII, 2016 and 2017 ($128,000 twice).
Among the achievements of the new NIP CS2 team, we can note 2nd place at YaLLa Compass 2024 (S-tier), where out of all the CS teams, the “ninjas” lost only to TMZ.
Ninjas in Pyjamas Legends
Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg, now one of the most famous CS players of all time, made an invaluable contribution to the success of team NIP. A talented riffler and entry fragger, he also successfully coped with maintaining the defence.
F0rest has repeatedly been recognized as one of the best players in the scene – since the 2010s, he has regularly led the European and world tops. Of all the players in the legendary roster, he stayed in it the longest, leaving his team only in 2020. It’s funny that since 2024, “f0rest” is back in the Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 team, but already simply as a content creator.
NiP Upcoming Tournaments
In the near future, the Swedish team will have to try their hand at qualifying for StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. This will be incredibly important for the Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 roster, which once reached the finals of majors five times in a row. After all, in recent years, CS2 NiP team has not been able to compete at the top echelon: for example, the team did not even manage to get to the last three major tournaments CS2, in 2024 and 2025, due to failed qualifications.
FAQ
The Ninjas in Pyjamas club dates back to 2000. Having played CS 1.6 and CS Source, having survived a 7-year absence, they relaunched in 2012, with the release of CS GO – and are still on the scene, now as NIP CS2.
Since 2025, the permanent CS2 NIP roster includes Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer – IGL, Artem “r1nkle” Moroz, Michel “ewjerkz” Magalhães, Rasmus “sjuush” Beck. Also playing with the Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 team is the temporarily invited Kacper “xKacpersky” Gabara.
NIP ranking in Valve tables is 24th place in the world and 18th in Europe. HTLV ranking puts them in 21st place, with a score of 87 points. After the collapse of the Ninjas in Pyjamas CS2 rating in mid-2023, today’s situation can be considered a pretty good result.
The current NIP IGL is 35-year-old Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, an incredibly experienced player who joined the team from Team Falcons in early 2025. Snappi’s playing career began back in 2008.
The main NIP coach is a former player from the team’s “golden age” – Richard “Xizt” Landström. He is assisted by Fredrik “JAEGARN” Andersson and Daniel “sprayxd” Kogan.
