Virtus pro CS2 Team Review

Anyone who has ever been interested in eSports doesn’t need to be told about Virtus pro. This team is a true legend: they played before many of today’s eSports stars were born. It’s hard to name a game in which the “Bears” wouldn’t have a successful roster: in Dota 2, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, Standoff and dozens of other world-famous and niche games.

Of course, the Virtus pro CSGO (and later CS2) roster also achieved fantastic success. How the “bears” have managed to terrify their enemies for over 20 years – we figure it out in the MelBet Pick’em review.

Virtus pro History

It takes more than one page to retell the history of Virtus pro. Their path is full of ups and downs: starting their journey in 2003, they quickly reached the top of the Russian CS 1.6 eSports arena, and a year later they took third place at the international S-tier tournament ESWC 2004 (something like majors at that time).

The Russian team was repeatedly relaunched with different participants. Most of all, everyone remembers the “Polish” Virtus pro CSGO roster, which played in 2014 – 2017 and made the team truly invincible, in particular, winning the EMS One Katowice 2014 major. In 2022, the team will have time to play under the Outsiders tag – and win their second major in Rio. But after that, the roster of the legendary Virtus began to storm a little – and in our time, the reputation of the invincible titans is in question.

Virtus.pro Founders

Virtus pro CSGO is an example of an eSports team created from above: throughout the club’s history, key decisions were initiated by experienced businessmen and managers. The founder of the legendary bears is considered to be Irina “Runcha” Semenova, a Russian eSports expert and the author of the name (from Latin “virtus” – valor). Later, the club will change owners several times, being in the hands of various Russian and Armenian investors.

For many years, the club was actually headed by Anton “Sneg1” Cherepennikov, a co-owner and talented manager. He managed to get huge amounts of investment from Russian entrepreneurs for the project – however, unfortunately, he died in 2023. Since then, Virtus pro owner has changed again: it is Armenian entrepreneur Aram Karamanukyan, and the CEO post is occupied by Nikolay Petrosyan.

Virtus pro Initial Roster

Reading about the initial roster of Virtus pro, it may seem that we are not talking about Counter Strike at all, but about some other game: there are no familiar championships like ESL or IEM, and the prize for a prize place at the main world tournament is only $12,000.

In the initial year, in 2003, the Virtus pro roster consisted of F_1N, groove, LeX, Sally and Snoop. Today, after so many years, only F_1N remains in the media space, but little is known about the rest.

However, looking that far back is no longer relevant. It would be more logical to recall the initial roster of the team after their break in 2009-2011. So, in 2011, the new Virtus pro CSGO roster (more precisely, then it was CS 1.6) consisted of:

  1. Vadim “MSE” Zimin;
  2. Anton “Tonyblack” Kolesnikov;
  3. Mikhail “Evil” Garanin;
  4. Svetlana “Svetaska” Alekseeva;
  5. Nina “Greeny” Omelchenko.

Today, 32-year-old tonyblack, who has played in many teams, including the top Team Spirit, and 38-year-old MSE, continue their activities in the CS arena. Both of them currently hold coaching positions.

Virtus pro Current Roster

Today’s roster can’t be called the strongest in the history of Virtus.pro CS2, but it’s still pretty good. Over the past few years, the team has again chosen the tactic of constant experiments with rosters, responding to every failure at the tournament with substitutions.

Today, in September 2025, the Virtus pro CS2 roster includes:

  1. Evgeniy “FL1T” Lebedev (joined 2021);
  2. Petr “fame” Bolyshev (joined 2022);
  3. Kaisar “ICY” Faiznurov (joined 2024);
  4. Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy (joined 2025) – IGL;
  5. Vadim “tO0RO” Arkov (joined 2025).

The latest addition to the team, tO0RO, replaced electroNic (ex-IGL), a legendary NaVi player who was signed in 2024 and is now on the bench. The core of the team today consists of FL1T and fame – the same veterans who won the major in 2022 as “Outsiders”.

In the last year and a half, the team also experienced the dismissal of coach Dastan, who had successfully worked in the Virtus.pro CS2 team for more than 4 years. And after that, they fired his replacements XomA and PASHANOJ, again due to the team’s dissatisfaction with poor results. So, the new coach of Virtus.pro is Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov – a true witness to the team’s history: he was present in the initial lineup both in 2003 and at the restart in 2011.

Despite the fact that the team maintains high places in the ratings, it has not yet been possible to reach the former heights. After the success in Rio 2022, at the last 4 majors, Virtus pro CS2 team failed to rise above the peak of 9-11 place.

Virtus.pro Tournament Achievements

Of course, Virtus.pro CS2 team, as one of the 6 teams in the world that won the major more than once (2016 and 2022), has a list of won world tournaments of many dozens of lines. Especially if you consider their long history: the team’s first victory at A-tier took place in 2005, the first victory at S-tier – in 2007.

The most significant victories of the “bears”, in addition to two victories at majors, can be considered:

  • 1st place at Flashpoint Season 2, 2020 ($500,000);
  • 1st place at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas 2017 ($200,000);
  • 1st place at ELEAGUE Season 1, 2016 ($400,000).

The latest big win for the current core of CS2 Virtus pro is first place at the S-tier tournament Roobet Cup 2023, where they took home $150,000 in prize money.

Virtus.pro Legends

When talking about those who made Virtus pro famous on the world CS arena, we should definitely start with the legendary “Polish Five”, or “Golden Five”. The central player of that lineup and the team captain, Filip “NEO” Kubski, is one of the best Counter Strike players in history. Possessing incredible tactical skills and a keen understanding of psychology (both the enemy and his teammates), he intelligently distributed his forces and snatched victory in seemingly hopeless cases, while often remaining in the shadow of his brighter teammates.

One of the most memorable for the public was definitely Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski, a true idol of millions. The soul of the team, who gave birth to many memes, he was a daring sniper, capable of risky attacks that no one expected. This was a source of terror for the CS2 teams that competed with the “bears” during their golden period of 2014-2017.

Virtus pro Upcoming Tournaments

Team Virtus pro has successfully defended its right to participate in all world-class championships so far. In December 2025, they will appear at Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2025. Apparently, they will also take an active part in the qualification for StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.

Other tournaments CS2 that Virtus.pro CS2 team will be at in the near future: ESL Pro League Season 22, CS Asia Championships 2025 and FISSURE Playground #2.

FAQ

The appearance of the Russian club Virtus pro dates back to 2003. In 2009, the CS team was put on pause, but in 2011 it returned to the scene, where it remains in the top to this day.

Virtus pro CS2 roster has been going through constant changes in recent years. The core of VP CS2 today consists of Evgeniy “FL1T” Lebedev and Petr “fame” Bolyshev. Their colleagues are Kaisar “ICY” Faiznurov, Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy and Vadim “tO0RO” Arkov.

Having repeatedly found themselves at the very top of world rankings, VP CS2 current positions are: 20th place by HLTV and 18th place by Valve Ranking (13th place in the European region).

After replacing electroNic, Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy has been appointed as the new captain of VP CS2 – a new member of the team, but an incredibly experienced e-sportsman, who was previously part of the NaVi roster.

The new coach of VP CS2, appointed in the summer of 2025, is 41-year-old Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov. It will probably be difficult to find a longer connection between an eSports player and his team in the entire history of eSports: after all, Ivan was one of those who joined the first Virtus roster back in 2003.
