Spirit Dota 2 Team Review
Team Spirit is a popular eSports organization established in 2015 and moved its headquarters to Belgrade, Serbia in 2022. It is famous for comprising rosters of high-quality players across 5 different sports. Since December 2015, the Dota 2 team Spirit has broken records, including 530 wins from almost 1000 matches played. This is also evident in its Spirit CS2 roster, which began in June 2016. In our regular Dota 2 teams MelBet Pick’em analysis, our experts review Team Spirit Dota 2, providing information on its history and roster.
Team Spirit History
Team Spirit began its eSports journey in December 2015. Although founded in Russia, it moved all operations to Belgrade, Serbia. Team Spirit Dota 2 officially began its campaign when the club signed CIS Rejects as the first roster. Part of the players in its lineup included Goblak (captain), RAMZES666, and AfterLife.
The Spirit team achieved early success. This included winning the European qualification for the MDL Winter and the Shanghai Major. Yet, the early Team Spirit Dota roster suffered significant losses, like crashing out of the International LAN events. The team’s evolution has significantly increased, especially its victory at The International 2021, which earned it $18 million in cash prizes.
Team Spirit Founders
The Team Spirit owner at its inception was Nikita “Cheshir” Chukalin. A former Dota 2 player, Cheshir, played a massive role in the purchase of CIS Rejects. He still serves as the CEO of the Team Spirit organization today, with key responsibilities of handling its daily operations.
Part of the success Team Spirit Dota 2 has gotten is due to Cheshir’s influence in partnering with top brands. Although the roster suffered instability due to the departure of key players like AfterLife, he ensured the roster remained. This led to partnership and sponsorship agreements with key brands, including Bitget, Red Bull, and Secretlab. His leadership qualities have led to the growth of Team Spirit, building chemistry from the uncertainty the roster faced earlier.
Team Spirit Initial Roster
The Team Spirit Dota 2 roster began operations on December 6, 2015. Its earliest achievements included winning the ProDotA Cup Europe and reaching the Top 4 at D2CL Christmas Charity Magic, both in 2015. Here’s the initial roster for the Team Spirit Dota 2 squad.
- Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev — Offlaner;
- Bogdan “Iceberg” Vasilenko — Solo Middle;
- Vasily “AfterLife” Shishkin — Offlaner;
- Andrii “ALWAYSWANNAFLY” Bondarenko — AWF;
- Artur “Goblak” Kostenko — captain (Analyst Support).
- Coach: Ruslana “DKLana” Berest.
The roster began contesting in different leagues to build Spirit team chemistry. As stated, their victories were their European qualification for MDL 2015 Winter and winning the Tier 3 ProDotA Cup. It also won $5,023 by finishing in 3rd-4th at the Tier 2 D2CL Christmas Charity Magic competition. Since this initial roster, over 50 players have passed through, donning the team’s jersey of white, gray, and black. It also laid the path for the other members who would go on to win major tier championships.
