Talon Esports Dota 2 Team Review
Talon Esports (also referred to as TALON) is a formidable organization with headquarters in Hong Kong. This ambitious club has become a competitive force, boasting rosters in multiple esports, and has made its mark in Dota 2. However, its Talon Dota 2 roster, since its debut in November 2021, has been operating out of the Philippines. In this Team Talon review from our team at MelBet Pick’em, we spotlight one of the rising powerhouses from Asia in Dota 2.
Talon History
Founded in 2017, Talon esports started out by competing in different disciplines, like League of Legends and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. It made an official entry to Dota 2 in November 2021, signing high-profile players as its initial roster. A highlight of the roster was its performance at Riyadh Masters 2023, where they won about $1.7 million in cash prizes. Now, the organization has entered into partnership deals with top firms, like Flipster, a Cryptocurrency Exchange site. The new agreement means Dota 2 Talon will now compete as “Flipster Talon.”
Talon Founders
Team Talon Esports was co-founded by Sean “Sean” Zhang, who is also its CEO. He has been instrumental in the rise of the Asian-based organization, focusing on brand growth through securing partnerships and funding. Top examples were the announcement of a $2 million seed funding from investors in 2020. He also secured interest from New Wave Esports Corporation in November 2019 to put resources into the squad. Under his leadership, the association was named among 30 clubs that benefited from the Club Support Program from the Esports World Cup Foundation in May 2024.
These efforts from the Talon esports CEO have built the team. It has moved from a regional outfit to an international one, becoming a tough competitor for several Dota 2 teams.
Talon Initial Roster
Talon Dota 2 roster started out with a competitive lineup of names across Asia. Here’s how the initial squad looked:
- Kim “Gabbi” Santos — Offlaner;
- Rafli “Mikoto” Fathur Rahman — Solo Middle;
- Damien “Kpii” Chok — Offlaner;
- Brizio “Hyde” adi Putra Budiana — Support;
- Tal “Fly” Aizik — Captain/support.
- Coach: Brando “XLR8” Oloan.
Although this roster included different high-profile players across Asia, it fell short of expectations. Hence, it parted ways with “Gabbi” and “Fly” in January 2022. “Kpii” and “Hyde” left in November 2024. Since then, several players and managers have passed through the roster. They include “Forev” and “ALWAYSWANNAFLY” (coaches from February to November 2024). In between these periods, the organization had undergone a complete rebuild of its entire roster in 2023.
However, there was some good news in between the switch-ups. The Team Talons Dota 2 secured a top-6 finish (3rd) at The Lima Major 2023, receiving a $75,000 cash prize. Others are advancing to the quarter-finals of DreamLeague Season 20 and Riyadh Masters 2023 (4th place finish in Group B).

Talon Legends

Kpii (Damien Chok), an experienced offlaner, was key to Talon’s success in its initial roster. He is known for an adaptive playstyle, fitting in different positions to fill the team’s needs. 23savage is another impressive gamer who joined the team in February 2022 and had an instant impact. As a carry, he was essential to the Dota Talon roster campaigns at The International 2023 and Riyadh Masters 2023. Their efforts, together with previous coaches like ALWAYSWANNAFLY and Forev, have helped Talon rise from regional champions to global competitors.
Talon Upcoming Tournaments
Talon Esports Dota 2 has enjoyed direct invitations to 20% of its overall tournament outings. Following the impressive outing at the Esports World Cup 2025, the team is already planning to participate in another Tier 1 tournament. Talon Dota 2 roster will contest at the BLAST Slam IV, which will run from October 14 to November 9, 2025. Its venue is the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
This competition will feature 12 teams globally. The prize pool is $750,000, with $250,000 earmarked as “Team Earnings.” With the current roster, Talon Dota 2 aims to enhance its dominance in Dota 2 tournaments at the BLAST Slam IV.
