Xtreme Gaming Dota 2 Team Review
The white wings of the Xtreme Gaming logo have become a symbol of the resurgence of Chinese esports. After the decline of 2020-2024, no one expected to see the Chinese team in the global top tier—but that’s precisely the reality today. Xtreme was initially created as a Dota-focused team (though they also have a Valorant lineup). However, their rise to the top wasn’t without its challenges — they even fell to the very bottom of Tier 2 before reaching their current position in the global top 10.
Is the rise of Dota 2 Xtreme Gaming team a flash in the pan or consistent success? We answer this question in the new MelBet Pick’em Team Review.
Xtreme Gaming History
Xtreme emerged in 2021, when many had given up on Chinese esports. Government restrictions, along with Valve’s mass ban of Chinese pros, undermined the decades-long dominance of Chinese teams in the global Dota 2 arena. However, leadership of Dota XG team set out to fill this void.
Xtreme Gaming reached Tier 1 in 2024-2025, gathering the best veterans of the Chinese scene from those who remained active. The secret to their success was constant training with European teams, rather than regional ones, to adapt to the new meta. As a result, Xtreme is now at the peak of their development and a serious threat to all Tier 1 Dota 2 teams.
Xtreme Gaming Founders
The club was founded in 2021 by Chinese player Yan Yiqing. Xtreme Gaming Dota 2 is not his only esports project. A side team was later spun off from the club, using a separate tag, Azure Ray. In December 2023, Yan Yiqing sold Xtreme Gaming to Chinese investor Ye Yi. He currently owns the organization and the Dota 2 XG team, and also serves as CEO. Manager Ke “Fan” Yifan also handles management.
Xtreme Gaming Initial Roster
The club’s first Dota 2 roster appeared in January 2021, becoming its first gaming unit. It included the following Chinese players:
- He “Just” Zhipeng;
- Cai “Storm” Di;
- Wang “Ayunid” Wei;
- “Karkur” (name unknown);
- “桃” (name unknown).
Just and Storm had previously played in different side divisions of the top Chinese team Newbee, which later received a permanent ban. However, the first two years of team XG Dota 2 weren’t exactly a strong start, but rather a time for training. This was more for the club’s management than the lineup, as changes were frequent. The first stable core of Dy, Pyw, and Paparazi wouldn’t be formed until late 2021.
For the first three years, Xtreme Gaming Dota 2 remained at the bottom, on the border between Tier 2 and Tier 3. However, this was still a slow, albeit steady, development—for example, in 2022, the Xtreme Gaming roster won first place at OGA Dota PIT Season 6: China (Tier 2), beating out strong regional competitors.
Xtreme Gaming Current Roster
The peak of XG Dota 2 momentum came at The International, where they were one step away from defeating Team Falcons and securing the coveted gold medal. Ultimately, however, the team finished second. The conclusion of the year’s biggest event, of course, impacted the team’s roster: two members left the Xtreme Gaming Dota 2 roster. Today, November 2025, the roster includes:
- Chunyu “Ame” Wang (joined 2023)
- Jing “Xxs” Lin (joined 2023);
- Jin Xiang “NothingToSay” Cheng (joined 2025);
- Linsen “fy” Xu (joined 2025);
- Jian Wei “xNova” Yap (joined 2025).
Of the team’s veteran players, only carry Ame and offlaner Xxs remain. However, xNova, a former stand-in for BOOM ID and OG, has fully joined the roster. The team also welcomed NothingToSay from Malaysia (a three-time TI participant with PSG.LGD) and fy from China (four TI appearances, a true veteran of the scene).
It’s safe to say that Xtreme Gaming Dota 2’s performance over the past six months has been the highest in their four-year history. If the current lineup can establish effective synergy between all of their players, the Dota XG team can confidently aim for the very top of the world rankings.
The star-studded Chinese roster is coached by Zhang “xiao8” Ning, a veteran of LGD Gaming. He participated in four Internationals as a player (3 out of 4 with a prize place), and attended four more TIs as a coach.
Xtreme Gaming Tournament Achievements
To date, Dota 2 Xtreme Gaming major achievements have come in 2024 and 2025. Their results include two Tier 1 prizes in 2025 and a whopping five in 2024. Here are their most prestigious tournament wins:
- 1st place at Elite League Season 1, 2024 – Tier 1 ($300,000);
- 2nd place at The International 2025 – Tier 1 ($370,000);
- 2nd place at PGL Wallachia Season 1, 2024 – Tier 2 ($175,000);
- 1st place at OGA Dota PIT Season 6: China, 2022 – Tier 1 ($62,500).
The team also received a large prize (only slightly less than the silver prize at TI) for first place in the Tier 2 Games of the Future 2024 tournament. The championship earned Xtreme $350,000 in prize money.
Xtreme Gaming Legends
Meteoric rise of Dota 2 XG was achieved thanks to the recruitment of the best of the best from the Chinese scene. Their victories at global tournaments would certainly not have been possible without Wang “Ame” Zhixing, one of the strongest carries on the planet. He is a master of effective farming, playing a wide hero lineup. Today, Ame is one of Xtreme’s main assets.
Equally important was the contribution of Zixing “XinQ” Zhao, who has since left the team. Ame’s teammate in PSG.LGD, he is also highly flexible, but also much more aggressive and unpredictable. XinQ was also crucial as captain, coordinating the efforts of an experienced and talented roster.
Xtreme Gaming Upcoming Tournaments
The coming weeks will be busy for Dota 2 Xtreme Gaming. They’ll be competing in Tier 1 Dota 2 tournaments like PGL Wallachia Season 6 (Xtreme finished 5th-6th in the previous season, despite taking silver in Season 1), BLAST Slam V, and DreamLeague Season 27. The Xtreme Dota 2 squad hasn’t had much luck in the latter — their best result was bronze at DreamLeague Season 22, but they haven’t even finished in the top 10 in the last two seasons. Therefore, the team still has some room for improvement.
