OG CS2 Team Review
OG in Counter-Strike is a side project of the global Dota scene champions of the second half of the 2010s. “Original Gangsters” launched this second roster in 2019, when the OG Dota 2 team’s reign was already waning. While the club never won a world championship in Counter-Strike, it repeatedly reached the top of the global rankings, unexpectedly crushing the scene’s titans. MelBet Pick’em, in a classic style, has compiled for you a fully retraced OG CSGO team’s path, one of the most legendary esports clubs of our time.
OG History
The Danish club “Original Gangsters,” or simply OG esports, emerged in 2016. It was founded by former Dota 2 players from SK Gaming. In its first years, the team absolutely tore into the scene, setting several still-unbroken records on the global stage.
The OG CS GO unit was added at the very end of 2019 and initially showed some promise. However, over the past four years, the team has shown mixed results. All S-tier victories belonged to the initial roster, and now the team has lost all of its “architects of victory” from previous years and is no longer able to compete with top CS2 teams. Therefore, OG is now searching for new talent.
OG Founders
OG esports is an interesting example of a grassroots organization. When it was founded in 2015, the idea and initiative came from the players themselves: Danish Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, Frenchman Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, and Israeli Tal “Fly” Aizik. They founded OG’s first Dota roster.
Four years later, “N0tail” and “Ceb” (each of whom remains OG esports owner), along with the company’s board of directors, decided to add a team OG roster for the Counter-Strike scene. Today, the same founders, along with the new OG CEO, Daniel “zsx” Sanders, participate in making such key decisions.
OG Initial Roster
In the early years of OG CS2 lineup, the club quickly demonstrated what it means to have a strong grasp of the scene, regardless of the game. The team’s stats skyrocketed, and within a year of its existence, the team had reached the top 5 in HLTV. Here’s the original team roster:
- Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen – IGL;
- Nicolas “NBK-” Aubry;
- Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså;
- Issa “ISSAA” Murad;
- Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski.
The first OG roster was multinational, as is typical for this club. Players were also recruited from various teams – for example, “Aleksib” was invited after playing for ENCE, and “NBK-” joined the team after playing for Team Vitality. Two months later, the team also acquired a coach – Danish Casper “ruggah” Due, a true legend of the global scene, who has been in professional esports since 2008.
The OG CS unit didn’t tarnish their glorious name – on the contrary, they immediately challenged the old guard, breaking into Tier 1 and finishing second – first at Flashpoint Season 2, and then at IEM XVI: Summer This roster remained unchanged until 2021, with all initial players finally leaving the team in early 2022.
OG Current Roster
In OG’s history, the peak year so far is 2022 – unfortunately, their results have been declining since then. The successful initial roster disbanded, and new key players quickly moved to other top teams. This forced the management to make a revolution – now Original Gangsters is trying to build a unit around new young players (the lineup is for October 2025):
- Christoffer “Chr1zN” Storgaard – IGL (joined 2024);
- Olle “spooke” Grundström (joined 2025);
- Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi (joined 2025);
- Adam “adamb” Ångström (joined 2025);
- Rafael “arrozdoce” Wing (joined 2025).
The numbers speak for themselves: in 2023, 2024, and 2025, OG management made four changes each, essentially completely revamping the team. It’s hard to expect great results under such a policy: Original Gangsters CS2, predictably, failed to secure any top spots at global competitions. The most stable member of the OG new roster is its captain, the young 19-year-old Dane Chr1zN, who joined the team from the youth ranks of MOUZ NXT in 2024.
OG’s coaching is more stable: the current coach, Lambert “Lambert” Prigent, was the replacement for ruggah, who left for Astralis. He’s now the lead coach himself, since spring 2024. It’s not as if things have been all bad under his leadership: in 2025, the OG CS2 squad finally managed to clear the European RMR for the Austin Major for the first time, but still dropped out in Stage 2.
OG Tournament Achievements
In summary, 2022 was the team’s most successful year (it was then that they reached a record-breaking sixth place in the HLTV rankings). It was also during this time that OG CS team achieved their most significant victories:
- 3-4 place at BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 – S-tier ($70,000);
- 1st place at BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022 – S-tier ($27,500);
- 2nd place at Flashpoint Season 2, 2022 – S-tier ($250,000);
- 2nd place at Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Summer, 2021 ($42,000).
Among their recent achievements, it’s worth noting the silver medal at Skyesports Masters 2024 – Original Gangsters lost to Aurora Gaming in the finals, but still took home $70,000 in prize money.
OG Legends
Perhaps the most successful players of OG CS2 are its founding fathers. Among them is Finn Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen. He was the team’s first captain, ensuring not only a successful start but also its major victories – second place at Flashpoint Season 2 and beyond.
He was assisted in this by Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski from Poland, an AWP master. He played longer than anyone else on the initial roster – over two and a half years. His departure to BIG in the summer of 2022 finally brought the golden era of the OG CS2 team to an end.
OG Upcoming Tournaments
OG has clearly lowered its expectations for its players at the moment – the team is actively playing B-tier tournaments to get back into shape after the latest roster changes. The CS2 OG squad performed well at CCT Seasons 2 and 3 on the European Series, taking two gold medals last year. Therefore, it’s expected that the team will continue its play in Tier 2 while searching for and training its new roster.
As for top tier tournaments CS2, the team’s next challenge will be the Thunderpick World Championship 2025, scheduled for autumn.
