OG Dota 2 Team Review
The only team that self-organized by the will of the players themselves. The team that tore up the only stage of The International, when no one even believed in their qualification. The only team that was able to defend its title and take two golds at TI in a row.
Yes, you got it right — we are talking about OG eSports. Today, under this brand there is also an OG CS 2 roster, but in this MelBet Pick’em we will look at the Dota 2 roster. Let’s analyze the great past of this legendary team, their difficult present, and finally find out the OG team meaning.
OG History
It all started 10 years ago, in the summer of 2015. Two people, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and Tal “Fly” Aizik, split from the newly created Team Secret and decided to create their own team with their own rules. At first, “(monkey) Business” was chosen as the name, but a couple of months later the guys registered their team as “Original Gangsters”, or simply “OG”. It would seem that this is another team made up of newcomers… But a month later, OG already won The Frankfurt Major 2015. And even after that, no one could believe that this was only the beginning of a rapid rise.
On their winning streak, OG opened a CS 2 direction in 2019 (and immediately got to 6th place according to HLTV), and in 2021 they assembled a Valorant roster. The club, unfortunately, has been in decline for the last few years — but first things first.
OG Founders
A versatile person — this is probably what you can say about Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. In fact, he is OG. The organizer and leader of the team, OG eSports owner and creator — and this at the age of 21! With all his managerial qualities, “N0tail” is also an excellent player. He has the title of one of the most titled Dota players, as well as record-high tournament earnings not only in the discipline, but in all of eSports.
Together with him, Tal “Fly” Aizik and Sébastien “Ceb” Debs stood at the origins of OG eSports. The latter still plays an important role in the management of the club’s projects. He is assisted in this by a new face — Dan “zsx” Sanders, a famous British eSports commentator, who has held the post of OG CEO since 2025.
OG Initial Roster
When N0tail and Fly were building their OG roster, they probably didn’t even suspect how quickly they would achieve success. However, the newcomers they picked were quickly replaced. Although, the starting lineup of OG eSport can’t help but be praised:
- Johan “N0tail” Sundstein;
- Tal “Fly” Aizik;
- David “MoonMeander” Tan;
- Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi;
- Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen.
This first team won The Frankfurt Major 2015 and The Manila Major 2016 — N0tail was amazingly lucky to immediately assemble a great team. However, the team still failed at TI6 — and then it was decided to reboot.
Fly and N0tail will form the core of the team until 2018, when the former decides to leave for Evil Geniuses. The team will literally fall apart before TI 8 — but will be reassembled in a flash, will storm the selection from the very bottom, and at the cost of great effort will snatch victory.
OG Current Roster
Let’s be honest — given the blinding success of the past years, today the OG Dota team is not in the best shape. After the exit of the founder “N0tail” from the main roster at the end of 2021, the golden age lasted for about another year — but no more. Since 2024, the team’s roster has been in a state of great turmoil. Now, in August 2025, the OG current roster is:
- Ingi “Shad” Lub — Carry;
- Daniel “Stormstormer” Shoetzau — Mid;
- Mykhailo “MikSa” Dorokhin — Offlane;
- Tamir “daze” Tokpanov — Support;
- Ivan “Kidaro” Bondarev — Support.
This is another reboot of OG, made in May 2025. The team managed to play at PGL Wallachia Season 5 (though they didn’t even make it into the top ten), and also tried their hand at qualifying for TI 2025. However, the team lost to both NaVi Junior and Nigma Galaxy, who successfully qualified, leaving OG Dota 2 roster in the outsider third place.
But there is hope for improvement. Since spring 2025, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein himself has returned to active work. After the end of the career of one of the key figures of OG, coach Mikhail “Misha” Agatov, the team was left without a mentor for a long time. Now this role is occupied by Johan himself. Whether he will be able to personally correct the situation and return his team to greatness — time will tell.
OG Tournament Achievements
Once upon a time, OG Dota players stood out so brightly in the arena that none of the top Dota 2 teams have been able to repeat their achievements to this day. A winning streak of 4 majors, as well as a unique case in the history of the game — defending the title of winner of The International.
Dota 2 team OG are rightfully one of the highest paid teams in history. Here is a list of their main achievements — victories in the main Tier 1:
- The International 2019 ($15,500,000+);
- The International 2018 ($11,000,000+);
- The Kiev Major 2017 ($1,000,000);
- The Boston Major 2016 ($1,000,000);
- The Manila Major 2016 ($1,110,000);
- The Frankfurt Major 2015 ($1,110,000).
The payout for TI9 is almost a record in the history of the game — only $18 million received by Team Spirit for TI10 surpassed it.
OG Legends
Speaking of the people of OG eSports, it is difficult to underestimate the contribution of “N0tail”, the immediate architect of the team. However, it is unlikely that such success would have been achieved without an equally talented team around him.
Sundstein’s old friend is Sébastien “Ceb” Debs — an equally versatile talent. Although he was not a player of the initial lineup, he supported the idea of creating OG from the very beginning, and acted as a manager. In the future, he will participate as a player, will switch between the roles of a substitute, player, coach and manager, and will be with the team despite any personal and team difficulties. He is called responsible for the fantastic series of victories at 4 majors in 2016-2017.
OG Upcoming Tournaments
Unfortunately, this year TI15, for the first time since the founding of the OG Dota team, will take place without them — the team failed to qualify for the main world tournament. The team will have to try their luck at PGL Wallachia Season 6 (in November 2025) and at the qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 27 (at the same time), as well as at numerous Tier 2 and Tier 3 events. OG’s last victory among significant tournaments Dota 2 took place at ESL One Malaysia 2022, so at each OG next match Dota 2 the team really hopes for new achievements — not only to show the world their potential, but also to unite.
FAQ
The first lineup of the international European OG Dota 2 team was formed in the summer of 2015. The starting challenge was the successful victory at The Frankfurt Major 2015, which marked the beginning of OG’s famous major winning streak. The last time the team was completely relaunched was in 2025.
Ingi “Shad” Lub, Daniel “Stormstormer” Shoetzau, Mykhailo “MikSa” Dorokhin, Tamir “daze” Tokpanov, Ivan “Kidaro” Bondarev. The team’s nationality is represented by various European countries, with the exception of daze, the youngest of the OG Dota roster, who hails from Kazakhstan.
The current ESL rating includes the second lineup of the club — OG.LATAM, which took 18th place in the global rating. Escore news also put the club in the same position. Ensigame rated the “gangsters” lowest — 29th place in the world.
The OG Dota 2 team has never clearly designated a team captain in its roster. Previously, this role was filled by key players such as N0tail or Ceb. In the new 2025 roster, which is just getting used to each other, the leadership role apparently remains undistributed.
In recent months, the coaching chair has been occupied by the team’s founder, 31-year-old N0tail. Previously, at different times, the role of OG Dota roaster’s mentor was taken on by players “Misha” and “Chuvash” from Russia, as well as the team’s co-organizer Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, who now holds a managerial position.
