Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov Overview

The legendary “Russian IGL,” as HLTV once dubbed him, is Leonid Vishnyakov. For over six years, he’s led Team Spirit, the most successful CS2 team in Eastern Europe today. Despite his advanced age of 28, Vishnyakov has no plans to retire – the last two years have been the pinnacle of both his personal and team careers. MelBet Pick’em has compiled the most interesting facts about the chopper CS player, one of Russia’s leading veterans.

Chopper Path to Esports

Leonid was born on February 4, 1997, in the Russian city of Kurgan, in southern Siberia. He recalls being introduced to the game early, at age 5, in local computer clubs — before CS 1.6 had even been released. By age 10, he was already playing with friends at school and city LAN tournaments.

The chopper CS2 player considers 2012 the start of his career, noting how difficult it was to break through in the early stages, without leagues like FaceIt. Upon reaching adulthood, Leonid played for the local Russian team Enso.

Chopper Professional Career

In the winter of 2025, chopper celebrated the 10th anniversary of his professional esports career. His path to Team Spirit included more than a dozen Russian teams, most of which he changed within a year. His career highlight was playing for Vega Squadron, a once-legendary (but now defunct) Russian team.

Ironically, Leonid joined this roster thanks to his victory over Team Spirit at the CIS Minor Championship – Atlanta 2017. At the time, he was playing for the self-organized team “ALL-IN,” and it was after this victory that they were spotted by Vega. Three years with this team became a career boost for the chopper Spirit team member – world tournaments, victories at the CIS Minor Championship – Kraków 2017 and China Top Shenzhen 2017, and tens of thousands of dollars in prize money. Leonid also qualified for two Majors – Boston 2018 and London 2018.

However, the following year wasn’t as successful for the team. In 2019, chopper left Vega Squadron for Team Spirit. As he later explained in an interview, the team’s roster had fallen apart, despite all attempts to improve the situation.

Chopper Current Team & Role

Vishnyakov recalls joining Spirit on his own initiative: he wrote to manager Sotf1k asking if the team needed more players. Everything worked out well, and chopper immediately landed the IGL spot. He’s been with the team for over six years now, since March 2019 (not counting a brief suspension in the winter of 2021-22).

The team played well, even briefly reaching the top 10 globally in the springs of 2021 and 2022. However, Team Spirit’s real breakthrough came in 2024, when they firmly established themselves in the top 5, defeating FaZe at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice (the first S-tier victory for both the club and a chopper Spirit lineup member). That same year, they won four more world-class tournaments, and in 2025, they also won four more gold medals.

Of course, chopper CS2 player stats are consistent with his captaincy — in terms of firepower, he’s behind not only donk’s main force, but also the entire four. However, that’s not what he’s there for — his value lies in coordination and passing on his experience to the younger generation.

FAQ

Chopper CS2 player’s real name is Leonid (or simply Lenya) Vishnyakov. He took his nickname from the One Piece anime character Tony Tony Chopper.
