The MongolZ CS2 Review

The MongolZ needs no introduction — today, it is the most legendary CS team in the Asian region. Born in Mongolia in 2013 as the MongolZ Dota 2 team, it was destined to focus on CS2 and become famous. After many years of searching for the perfect lineup, it has become a rising star, beating many titans of the scene, and is a favourite of thousands of fans around the world, including MelBet Pick’em users. MongolZ Valve ranking currently stands at 1775 points, placing the team in 4th place in the world.

MongolZ History

The MongolZ themselves count their history from 2013, but their first appearance on the global stage took place in 2015. Then the team made its debut to the world, having participated in a major CS:GO tournament for the first time: the Asian qualification for ESL One: Cologne 2015.

The following years were not easy for MongolZ CS2: there were experiments with the roster, offensive defeats, and notable successes (such as a fantastic victory at Intel Extreme Masters X — Taipei in 2016). At one time, the MongolZ also tried their hand at Dota, and even for a short time in Valorant, but later abandoned this idea, focusing on the MongolZ CS2 team. And, it seems, not in vain.

MongolZ Founders

Given the team’s multiple breakups and reunions, they have been overseen by different individuals and organizations over the years. For example, in 2018, MongolZ CS2 was contracted by Storm Rider, China.

After the last reboot in 2022, made possible by the members of the IHC Esports club, the team was led by Bilguunbat “Kaz” Enkhbayar (as CEO) and Nasandelger “Darkis” Namsrai (as COO). The current team manager is listed as Winter, and the team itself is based in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

MongolZ Initial Roster

The history of MongolZ CS2 in its early years remains vague, due to the search for a well-coordinated team, frequent player substitutions, and participation in small local tournaments. The composition of the first serious CS tournament, the MongolZ, is known for sure:

  1. Zilkenberg (Temulen Battulga).
  2. MaaRaa (Erdenedalai Bayanbat).
  3. FRost (Odbayar Altangerel).
  4. Nuka.
  5. Tsogoo (Tsog Mashbat).

In the first years, the team also included Bold “ncl” Batsukh and Enkhtaivan “Machinegun” Lkhagva. And although this lineup failed to secure a place at the top, it meant a lot to the team: for example, Machinegun and ncl will go a long way with the team, returning again and again after roster updates (ncl will even take the leadership seat for a while). They will also play together at the iconic Berlin Major 5 (2019).

But, undoubtedly, the key person in this list will be maaRaa. Erdenedalai Bayanbat became the team’s coach in 2016 — he still holds this position, having remained loyal to his team for more than 10 years. In the first couple of years, as the MongolZ CS2 roster recalls, they trained independently.

MongolZ Current Roster

The latest reunion of MongolZ CS2 can be safely called not just the best in the team’s history, but also a benchmark for any team in the world — especially considering their latest achievements. Since 2023, the team has steadily reached new heights every year, surprising its fans.

As of July, the MongolZ CS2 roster 2025 is as follows:

  1. Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren (MongolZ IGL): born 2002, joined April 3, 2023.
  2. Sodbayar “Techno4K” Munkhbold (Rifler): born 2003, joined April 3, 2023.
  3. Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch (AWPer/Sniper): born 2004, joined May 31, 2023.
  4. Ayush “mzinho” Batbold (Rifler/Support): born 2008, joined May 31, 2023.
  5. Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold (Rifler/AWPer): born 2006, joined September 7, 2023.

As of today, the team no longer has any players from the old generation who played before the reboot. The entire MongolZ CS2 roster was signed in 2023. The last to join the team was Senzu — he has been playing with MongolZ for less than 2 years now. However, the coaching chair is still occupied by Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat — the core player of the initial roster.

However, not much is known about the participants: the players rarely give interviews, preferring to focus on the game. And, apparently, for good reason: it was with this lineup that The MongolZ finally managed to shine all over the world: first — reaching the quarterfinals of Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, and the main triumph — second place at Blast Austin Major 2025.

MongolZ Tournament Achievements

The old lineup of The MongolZ showed itself to the world at Intel Extreme Masters X — Taipei in February 2016. It was the first significant victory for the “Mongols” — and their first $30,000 win. However, the stellar path of MongolZ CS2 began two years ago:

  • 3rd place at ESL Challenger at DreamHack Atlanta 2023 (A-tier, $10,000);
  • 1st place at YaLLa Compass 2024 (S-tier, $200,000);
  • 1st place at Thunderpick World Championship 2024 (A-tier, $500,000);
  • 5th place at Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 (S-tier, $45,000);
  • 2nd place at Blast Austin Major 2025 (S-tier, $170,000).

Thanks to this, the MongolZ CS2 stats skyrocketed: they pushed aside the top CS teams, and rightfully entered the top ten, and then the top five strongest teams in the world according to HLTV.

MongolZ Legends

Over the long history of MongolZ CS2, the roster has changed several dozen players, including both relative newcomers to the world of eSports and talented pros. It is impossible not to remember Enkhtaiwan “Machinegun” Lkhagva — a core player from the past, who played and won at IEM X Taipei in 2016, and went through a 7-year journey with the team. Today, Machinegun has already completed his career in CS, working as a coach, but he has forever inscribed his name in the MongolZ Hall of Fame.

But the current MongolZ CS2 players are rightfully considered true legends for their high achievements. Here, we cannot fail to mention Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren, the team captain responsible for both the fantastic 20-win streak and The MongolZ’s victories at S-tier tournaments, from Thunderpick World Championship 2024 to the semi-finals of BLAST Austin Major 2025. His team is not far behind their leader, and Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch even received the MVP award at YaLLa Compass 2024.

MongolZ Upcoming Tournaments

MongolZ has broken into the top echelon quite boldly in the last two years, pushing aside the classic top-5 leaders. Now they face a tough fight to maintain their high status. MongolZ CS2 next match after the Major takes place at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2025. We will also definitely see them at such upcoming tournaments CS2 as BLAST Bounty 2025 Fall, EWC 2025 and EPL S22, which start next season. Yes, summer and fall 2025 will be tense for The MongolZ, but they may be inducted into the CS2 world hall of fame forever.
