Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren Overview

When a talented 18-year-old chess player from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, first joined an amateur Tier-3 esports team in 2020, no one could have predicted that five years later, he would become the leader of Asia’s strongest CS team, vying for global domination. We’re talking about Garidmagnai Byambasuren, aka bLitz MongolZ IGL, born June 26, 2001. We analyze how this young captain managed to elevate his equally young team to the top 5 in the world and bring Mongolia fame to the global esports community in our MelBet Pick’em review.

BLitz Path to Esports

Garidmagnai Byambasuren gained fame in Mongolia even before the start of his esports career as an incredibly talented young chess player. At the age of 13, he achieved the FIDE Candidate Master standard, and at 16 (2017), he achieved the title of Master. This is a relatively young age for such a high title, even by international standards.

His ability to think strategically and evaluate his opponent’s moves several steps ahead helped bLitz achieve a high level in esports. Incidentally, Garidmagnai knows how to combine excellent form on Valve maps and on a checkered board. For example, he was already in the national top 10 in rapid chess while playing CS:GO for Checkmate Team. The bLitz CSGO nickname, incidentally, originates from chess – it’s the name for a special, high-speed variant of the board game.

BLitz Professional Career

BLitz CSGO professional career began at the age of 18 with the amateur Mongolian esports team Checkmate, which he was directly involved in creating. The roster played its first match in February 2020. The team primarily played in the C-tier, but in 2022, it showed rapid growth, taking its first gold medal at the B-tier event Funspark ULTI 2021: Asia Playoffs #2. Then, another Mongolian club, IHC Esports, became interested in the team. A contract was signed, and the entire Checkmate roster adopted a new tag.

Garidmagnai, appointed captain, and his unit performed admirably – in November 2022, they became the first Mongolian team to successfully qualify for the prestigious international IEM Rio Major 2022 (and subsequently for Katowice 2023, where they even finished in the top ten). A year later, the promising five were lured to The MongolZ, whose previous roster had just fallen apart due to a conflict.

BLitz Current Team & Role

BLitz CS2 player has been a member of The MongolZ team since April 2023, combining the roles of In-Game Leader and riffler. Like most captains, his hallmark is calm and composed. This not only allows him to rationally manage his team but also carry the day in clutches, remaining completely alone. BLitz is also considered a true grenade master, possessing a very high Utility Rating, even by global standards.

The BLitz MongolZ unit truly achieved such success thanks to their captain. Under Garidmagnay’s leadership, the roster took gold at the 2024 Thunderpick World Championship, earning $500,000 in prize money, and also won the prestigious Middle East YaLLa Compass Cup 2024. But, of course, the team truly achieved fame at the BLAST.tv Major Austin 2025, when the Mongolian team competed at the very top of the global CS scene. The MongolZ returned from the Major with a silver medal—but from that moment on, bLitz and his team became icons not only for Mongolians but also for millions of fans around the world.

BLitz Records & Awards

At the 2024 Thunderpick World Championship, the team took first place, defeating HEROIC, and bLitz CS2 player was deservedly named MVP. Given the MongolZ-5’s absolute dominance in their home country, he also holds numerous national esports records—for example, he holds the top spot in Mongolia for total prize money.
