G2 CS2 Team Review

G2 is a European eSports club, currently registered in Germany. The organization includes teams for LoL, Valorant, and over the past years, has also managed to experiment with Dota 2 and other games. However, the club has gained the greatest fame and respect among CS fans. The G2 team is known for its consistently high level of play in every match — and colossal assertiveness. In this review from MelBet Pick’em, we will analyze what secrets in CS2 G2 manages to maintain the team’s effectiveness, and recall their main achievements.

G2 History

The history of the G2 eSports CSGO team began in 2015. At that time, the newly created Spanish eSports organization “Gaming2” tried to form a team in the popular shooter. In 2015, there were two attempts with different CS2 teams — with players from ESC Gaming (quickly called a failure), and with a team from one of G2’s sponsors, the marketplace “Kinguin”. With Kinguin, the G2 team managed to get to the semi-finals of their first major, but no further. Therefore, in 2016, the team was reassembled again.

Over the next 9 years, a lot of work was done. Both the G2 eSports CSGO team and the entire organization as a whole developed. Rocket League and Valorant rosters appeared nearby, and the CS team itself managed to find real pros — and unite them into a squad of winners.

G2 Founders

The G2 eSports organization was created in 2014 by 24-year-old Spanish eSports player Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, who had previously played for SK Gaming, and 39-year-old German entrepreneur Jens Hilgers. They also formed the first CS roster in the fall of 2015. “Gaming2” was originally conceived as an interdisciplinary eSports organization, and the CS team became the first “extension of the organization” — after all, the core roster specialized in LOL.

In 2022, Carlos Rodriguez left his post as G2 eSports CEO, handing it over to Hilgers. The reason was a conflict. However, this did not affect the global policy of the organization.

G2 Initial Roster

So, for the first time under the club label, in the spring of 2015, the following entered the world arena: MINISE, rallen, MICHU, mouz, SZPERO and innocent. These were Polish players from ESC Gaming. However, by the fall, they were replaced by players from “Kinguin”:

  1. fox (Ricardo Pacheco).
  2. Maikelele (Mikail Bill).
  3. rain (Håvard Nygaard).
  4. dennis (Dennis Edman).
  5. jkaem (Joakim Myrbostad).

It was this lineup that immediately flew into DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 (yes, that year Valve held three majors), where they were eliminated only in the semi-finals — not bad for a starting lineup! Therefore, it is more likely that it should be considered the starting lineup of G2.

However, soon, at the beginning of 2016, the players were sold to Faze Clan. A new team was formed almost immediately — this time, French-speaking, using the previous lineup of the “Titan” team. Subsequently, it was this team, having gone through multiple replacements, that would turn into the current G2 CS2 roster.

G2 Current Roster

As of today, early August, four players have been added to the G2 roster 2025:

  1. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač (G2 IGL, played since 2019);
  2. Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski (since 2024);
  3. Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa (since 2024);
  4. Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko (since 2025).

Olek “hades” Miskiewicz, who was temporarily playing for the team, left it as planned after the summer Austin Major 2025. As you can see from the dates, in the last year alone, Gaming2 has replaced all of the team’s players, with the exception of the ever-present huNter, who is the team captain. In the period 2019-2021, the G2 lineup showed less than satisfactory results, so the replacement process continued; however, they bypassed huNter due to his excellent skill.

The team captain for the last 2 years was former Polish player Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, until July 2025, when he was replaced by 33-year-old Finn Eetu “sAw” Saha, who had previously coached HEROIC.

G2 Tournament Achievements

In the last couple of years alone, G2 has accumulated enough victories to form a solid professional-level esports portfolio. Here are just a few:

  • 1st place in Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2023 (S-tier, $400,000);
  • 3rd place in PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 (S-tier, $80,000);
  • 1st place in BLAST Premier: World Final 2024 (S-tier, $500,000);
  • 3rd place in Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 (S-tier, $80,000).

2025, however, did not go as well for the G2 eSports CS2 team as their stellar years of 2023 and 2024: in the last S-tier matches, the team did not rise above 5th place — for example, at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, they did not even manage to secure a place in the top 10. Apparently, the search and experiments with the personnel will continue in the near future.

G2 Legends

Over the years of the team’s existence, they have seen many talented players; however, among them, there are not just talents, but real legends.

From the old rosters, we cannot help but remember Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, a French eSports player who played in the team from 2017 to 2022 (a record for the longest time playing in G2). KennyS has repeatedly made it into the annual lists of the top 20 players in the world, thanks to his excellent AWP skills. Under him, G2 managed to win the ESL Pro League Season 5 Finals, DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017, and many other tournaments.

A real legend plays in G2 eSports now: this is Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, a talented, versatile player, who is always praised by all teammates for his incredible stability and colossal dedication in any match. His leadership qualities are also incredibly important, allowing him to bind the frequently updated G2 team together.

G2 Upcoming Tournaments

The team usually gets to all major world tournaments. With a high degree of probability, they will appear at the autumn BLAST tournaments, as well as at the October ESL Pro League Season 22. The next major will undoubtedly be significant for them — StarLadder Budapest 25, starting in December. After all, despite numerous victories in the top tournaments CS2, G2 cannot boast of a victory in any of the majors yet. Qualification for Budapest starts in September — so watch for announcements of G2 CS2 next match!

FAQ

G2 eSports, as an organization, appeared in 2014. They acquired their first CS roster in early 2015 and experimented for a year before forming a core roster by 2016. That same year, G2 won their first S-tier tournament.

Following the Austin Major ‘25, as of July, the G2 2025 roster consists of: Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski, Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, and Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko. The team’s newly appointed coach is Eetu “sAw” Saha.

As of August 2025, the European club’s positions about its opponents in the arena are as follows: 7th place according to ESL World Ranked (832 points), 14th place according to HLTV (150 points), but in the BLAST ranking, 3rd place. According to Valve, G2 esports ranking is 1566 points. Today it’s in 10th place.

G2 2025 IGL is the 29-year-old Bosnian Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, the most experienced player on the team and the only one not to be replaced in recent years. Having developed into a top-tier player thanks to G2, he is highly regarded for his leadership and playmaking skills.

In the summer of 2025, after the Major ended, “TaZ” was replaced as coach by Eetu “sAw” Saha, a Finnish esports player who previously worked as a coach for ENCE and Heroic.
