Nikola “NiKo” Kovač Overview
Nikola Kovač is a Bosnian esports player who needs no introduction. Over a career spanning over 14 years, he has amassed so many titles and personal bests that it’s difficult to list them all. A longtime G2 player, he now plays for Team Falcons‘ CS2 roster, and as a seasoned veteran, he helps younger players build a cohesive game. Read about one of the Balkan region’s greatest esports players in the new review by MelBet Pick’em.
NiKo Path to Esports
Nikola was born in 1997 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and spent his childhood in the towns of Bijelinna and Brčko. Those familiar with the rosters of top CS teams will recognize the name Kovač more than once. Besides our hero, NiKo CS player, there’s also Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, a veteran of the scene who has been playing for G2 Esports for over six years. This is no coincidence: Nikola and Nemanja are cousins, practically the same age.
They discovered their love for CS together, at an internet cafe owned by NiKo’s parents. At the same time, the two were also into Dota and WoW, but immediately decided that sooner or later they would become professional esports players. And that’s precisely what happened.
NiKo Professional Career
The cousins are tight-lipped about whether there’s any professional rivalry between them today. Their career paths overlap in some ways, but not entirely. Before coming of age, both spent a significant amount of time with iNation, a Serbian team. NiKo CS player, changed rosters numerous times, switching between Serbian team GamePub and Greek Team Refuse.
Nikola quickly reached the international level: in 2011, at the age of 15, he played in his first A-tier tournament with iNation. Just two years later, he was playing at an S-tier event – the ESL Major Series One tournaments (not to be confused with modern Majors!).
In 2015, upon reaching adulthood, NiKo CSGO player, decided to seek more, leaving iNation for MOUZ (then known as “mousesports”). He spent two years there, after which he moved to FaZe for two more years, where he excelled at the ELEAGUE Major 2018, finishing second. Finally, NiKo joined G2. The Bosnian played for this German team with his cousin for over five years.
NiKo Current Team & Role
Ironically, NiKo would ultimately leave G2 because the club’s management decided to shift the focus of their key player from him to the newcomer m0NESY. Nikola then agreed to join Team Falcons (the team was actively rebuilding with the stated goal of creating a Major-winning roster), but Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov followed him just four months later.
Ultimately, Kovacs and Osipov worked well together. NiKo still had to resign himself to the role of second riffler. His primary role is now the entry fragger, the main opener. As for NiKo CFG, they are quite standard for professional rifflers, with the exception of a high DPI (1600), which is uncharacteristic of the “old school.”
Given Nikola’s rich history with G2, it’s difficult to see the new Falcons roster achieving much against this backdrop. However, things are going well for now, and the team’s prime is clearly still ahead. In 2025, TF successfully won the PGL Bucharest 2025 S-tier, earning $200,000 in prize money. Incidentally, they fought and defeated G2 in the finals.
NiKo Records & Award
NiKo Falcons team member, holds a multitude of esports titles. Next year, 2026, he will celebrate 10 years of being a permanent top-20 player in the world according to HLTV (and even a top-10, if you don’t count 2016 and 2019, when he placed 11th). That’s practically a world record!
He also earned HLTV MVP medals at nine tournaments—unfortunately, no Majors, but eight of those were Big Events. For example, the most recent one was MVP at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025.
