Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov Overview
He got into professional sports thanks to skins. Is this a joke? No, it’s true: sh1ro had a really bad PC as a kid, but he was able to profitably trade the FACEIT points he earned for skins, which he used to buy a new set — so he and his friends could create their own amateur team. Now, this story sounds strange — sh1ro Spirit team member, now plays on top-end equipment, for one of the strongest teams in the world. Read about the journey of Dmitry Sokolov, TS AWPer, in the latest MelBet Pick’em review.
Sh1ro Path to Esports
Sh1ro, Dmitry Sokolov in real life, was born in the Russian city of Cheboksary in 2001. His passion for gaming came not from his peers, but from the older generation: his uncle got him hooked on the game. Sh1ro recalled: as a child, he wavered between Dota and CS, but ultimately chose the shooter as more interesting in terms of both theme and mechanics.
When sh1ro CS player, began his professional career (he was 17), his family was initially skeptical. However, Dmitry’s uncle saved the situation again – he accompanied the young talent to bootcamps. After much persuasion, his parents accepted their son’s passion and allowed him to spend hours playing.
Sh1ro Professional Career
sh1ro burst into the world of professional CS at the age of 17. No, he wasn’t scouted – he created a team with his friends. Their own “Team7” even qualified for the 2018 Russian e-Sports Championships. He then tried out for Fluffy Gangsters (incidentally, Spirit IGL, chopper, had previously played for the team), but sh1ro CSGO player didn’t work out, and he returned to his own projects.
His next venture, the amateur union “Vyalie Pitoni,” lasted only a few months, but managed to intimidate many pros in the scene: for example, these schoolboys managed to defeat Vega Squadron, then the top team in the CIS. The young guys caught the eye – sh1ro CS player was contacted by Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov, then the manager at Gambit, who offered him a place on the club’s academy roster.
The youth roster quickly grew, and sh1ro CSGO player joined the main squad. And then it all began: in 2021, Gambit absolutely tore the scene apart, rising to the absolute top spot. This was Dmitry’s peak, but just a year and a half later, in 2022, the club fell apart.
Sh1ro Current Team & Role
22-year-old sh1ro’s invitation to Team Spirit came at a time of decline. After the collapse of Gambit Esports, the entire team was signed by the Russian team Cloud9, but they struggled to perform effectively. Ultimately, in September 2023, ArtFr0st left TS, and the club bought out contract of sh1ro CS2 player (then the #8 HLTV player in the world) to replace him.
Sh1ro Spirit member role is AWPer. In the TS Five, donk also sometimes uses an AWP, but Dmitry is the primary player. On defense, he plays as an anchor. Sh1ro is also a recognized clutch master, having saved his team on more than one occasion in seemingly hopeless 1v3 or even 1v4 situations. HLTV highlighted this skill and his composure. Dmitry even holds a personal record for winning the most clutches at a major tournament (IEM Katowice 2021).
Along with his team, sh1ro won the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024. His other successes over the past two years include gold at IEM Katowice 2024 and Cologne 2025.
Sh1ro Records & Award
Sh1ro set a record in the HLTV rankings while playing for Gambit Esports – back in 2022, he climbed to third place, behind only ZywOo and s1mple. He also earned four MVP titles, including IEM Katowice 2021 and IEM Fall 2021 CIS. Think he’s some secret sh1ro cfg? No – it’s skill.
In 2021, he was also included in the Forbes Russia “30 Under 30” ranking in the “sports” category, with the publication placing him first.
